January 2012: Yellowstone National Park Evening Programs

Join a ranger for an illustrated program highlighting a fascinating aspect of Yellowstone' natural, cultural or scenic wonders. Weekly program descriptions will be posted in the West Yellowstone Visitor Information Center.

Every Saturday and Sunday throughout the winer meet at the Visitor Information Center at 30 Yellowstone Avenue at 7:00 PM

Every Sunday meet at the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center at 201 South Canyon Street at 1:30 PM, 3:00 PM throughout the winter.

January 2012: Gallatin National Forest Winter Snowshoe Programs

Come join Gallatin National Forest employees and learn about the great outdoors during the winter. Snowshoe Walk in the West Yellowstone area. Meet at the Forest Service building on the north edge of town along Hwy 191 at 1:00pm. For more information please call (406) 823-6961. No experience necessary. All programs last 2 to 3 hours unless stated otherwise. Dress in layers and wear snow-type boots. Bring along snowshoes, water, snack and binoculars.

January 2012: Yellowstone Winter Free Admission Day

Free Entry To Yellowstone This Weekend

Yellowstone National Park is waving admission fees this weekend in conjunction with the Martin Luther King, Jr., federal holiday.

No matter how you choose enter the park - by car, RV, bus, or on a guided snowmobile or snowcoach trip – the entrance fee to the park will be waived.

Access to the interior of Yellowstone during the winter months is restricted to guided snowmobile and snowcoach trips from the North, West, South, and East entrances.   At Old Faithful, the Old Faithful Snow Lodge and Cabins and the dining room; the Geyser Grill; the Bear Den Gift Shop; and the Old Faithful Visitor Education Center are all open for the winter season.

January 2012: Yellowstone's Winter Snowshoe Program

Discover Yellowstone’s fascinating winter ecology while wearing snowshoes. Join a ranger for a two-mile walk into Yellowstone National Park along the Riverside Trail. Meet at the West Yellowstone Visitor Information Center (30 Yellowstone Ave) at 1:30pm. No experience necessary! Bring your own snowshoes, plus water and a snack. This is a free program lasting 3 hours. Snowshoes can be rented from Bud Lily's, Yellowstone Alpen Guides or Free Heel & Wheel in West Yellowstone. For information, please call 307-344-2876.

Join the fun from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the West Yellowstone Ice Rink (located across the street from Westmart,100 S. Faithful Street off Yellowstone Ave).  Warm-up with hot beverages, toast some marshmallows, and make your own S' more. All the fixings provided. Bring your own sled for our Kid's Sledding Hill. Or, try out West Yellowstone's ice skating rink. Skates available. Old-fashioned family fun for everyone of every age!

January 14-15, 2011: Junior Olympic Qualifying Races

Young racers across the Rocky Mountains will vie for places on the national team.

January 28, 2012: Rendezvous Trails Free Ski Day

Trail fee waived and free ski lessons provided by WYSEF.

January 29, 2012: Winter Trails Day

In partnership with the USFS and national Winter Trails Day, the trail fee will be waived for the Rendezvous Ski Trails.  WYSEF board members will offer FREE one-hour ski lessons to all those who are interested.  Meet at the trailhead at 11am.  First timers to weekend warriors welcome!  Skate and classic technique.  Local ski shops offer complimentary ski & snowshoe rentals on a first come/first served basis.  Come out and enjoy the trails.
